“converse” In The Surrey Hills: Inspiring Views

“The first glimpse of the view from Holmbury Hill is a heart-stopping, glad-to-be-alive-in-England moment. It demands savouring, mulling over, contemplation and discussion. You are invited to do so from the sociable bench that now accompanies that view”.

The Inspiring Views project, run by Surrey Hills Arts and funded by the Mittal Foundation, invited five artists, a poet and a sound artist to create sculptural seating in five outstanding views. We created ‘Converse’, our fully accessible benches, from sweet chestnut for the Hurtwood and Holmbury Hill site and placed individual seats in an arrangement so visitors can sit out towards the view, or inwards for sociable conversation.

So lace up your boots and get moving to discover the site for yourselves – for details on all the works click here.

The story

The Inspiring Views project run by Surrey Hills Arts and funded by the Mittal Foundation, invited five artists, a poet and a sound artist to create sculptural seating at five outstanding sites within the Surrey Hills.

We created our bench from sweet chestnut for the Hurtwood and Holmbury Hill site and placed the individual seats in an arrangement so visitors can sit out towards the view or inwards for sociable conversation and picnics, also allowing wheelchair access.
